1st War of Knights Open International Fide Rating Chess Tournament 2022

On 26th December 2022 the Knight Chess Academy inaugurated the very first War of Knights Open International Fide Rating Chess Tournament, 2022 in Swami Vivekananda Institute of Modern Science, Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

Players from five federations, India, Bangladesh, USA, Srilanka and Australia had signed up for the chess tournament, making the Knight Chess Academy the very first private organisers in Kolkata, India who were able to enlist participation from players from America.

This amazing six-day tournament was recognised by reputed organisations like the central administrative body for chess in India AICF (The All India Chess Federation), the International Chess Federation or World Chess Federation or FIDE and SBDS (Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha) which is the all Bengal chess organisation.



Categories


With 90 minutes of time control for each player along with 30 seconds increment from move one this International Fide Rating Chess Tournament was arranged for boys and girls of age groups U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13 and U-15 to compete with each other from the age group trophies of each category where the First 8 boys are First 4 girls were awarded trophies.

While the categories like 1001 - 1200, 1201 – 1400, 1401 – 1600, Rating 1601 – 1800, Best Woman, Best Veteran and Best Unrated were also awarded amazing cash prizes. Not to forget the special prize for the Best KCA and BCA winners.


Prizes


At a nominal participation fee of ₹2000 1st War of Knights along with their co-organisers Baruipur Chess Academy came up with amazing cash prizes and trophies to congratulate its winners. With a total cash prize fund of ₹2,40,000 and trophies worth ₹45000, they awarded the 1st rank holder a cash prize of ₹45,000.00. The 2nd and the 3rd position holders received cash prizes worth ₹30,000.00 and ₹20,000.00 respectively along with trophies. Players that secured the ranks between 4th-20th were also given cash prizes ranging from ₹2,500.00- ₹10,000.00 based on their rank.

The winners of categories like Rating 1001 - 1200, Rating 1201 – 1400, Rating 1401 – 1600, Rating 1601 – 1800, Best Woman, Best Veteran and Best Unrated, were also given cash prizes. The players who attained the first position in these categories received ₹4,000.00 while the 2nd and 3rd position holders were awarded ₹3,000.00 and ₹2,500.00 respectively.

Age Group Prize winners were awarded with trophies.

The top five winners of the 1st War of Knights: Open International Fide Rating Chess Tournament, 2022 are as follows;

  1. Srijit Paul; having a FIDE rating of 2382 and scoring 8.5/9 clinching the champion's trophy.

  2. Deboushnik De; having a FIDE rating of 1651 and scoring 7.5/9, being the 2nd Runners Up

  3. Rishan Debnath; having a FIDE rating of 1423 and scoring 7.5/9, being the 3rd Runners Up

  4. Snehil Raj Singh; having a FIDE rating of 1544 and scoring 7.5/9, securing the 4th position

  5. Ayush Das; having a FIDE rating of 1574 and scoring 7.5/9, securing the 5th position



Responses from Participants

The first edition of the War of Knights: Open International Fide Rating Chess Tournament organised by KCA received 5 stars from most players on Google Reviews. The appreciation and excitement of the players who participated from across countries were infectious, some of them even expressed gratitude publicly on Google Review thanking KCA for providing players with a platform to compete with international players.

Complimenting the hospitable and efficient arrangement of the tournament, the players hoped that they get to participate in such tournaments organised by KCA soon.




Conclusion


1st War of Knights: Open International Fide Rating Chess Tournament, 2022, organised by The Knight Chess Academy, co-organised by Baruipur Chess Academy, was a grand success for the players. Along with the venue sponsor Swami Vivekananda Institute of Modern Science and advertising Sponsor SELVEL, KCA was able to organise an inspiring and engaging International Fide Rating Chess Tournament based on the FIDE Laws of Chess and FIDE Swiss System with 9 rounds. Their amazing delivery of the very 1st War of Knights has filled players with expectations of equally efficient and engaging tournaments in the near future.
